[Excel 2010] Calculating based on each value in a sum

I'm hoping this is possible, but I'm not sure if it is. Basically, I have a formula which does some rounding, and typically, I've just put the values into a calculation cell, and then manually add in the amount rounded. (It's also calculating a percentage). However, in the main body, all these values are summed, so that I might have 40.1 and 28.1 and 15.1.

So we have 40.1 + 28.1 + 15.1

Now let's say that I want 10% of each of those values, but then that 10% gets rounded to the nearest whole number. So now we have 4.01 + 2.81 + 1.51 which then goes to 4. + 3.0 + 2.0 for a grand total of 9.0. Now, without having access to each of those values, I would have had 83.3 which would be 8.33 which would be 8.0.

Hence, now I have a rounding error. Is there a way where when I have =40.1 + 28.1 + 15.1 in an excel file, that another formula can access each of those values, or is this impossible?

Thanks.

Hi,

Did you mean that you want to sum the numbers first, then round the sum result?

If it is, then just sum the numbers, then use ROUND function to round the value.

No, that's exactly what I don't want to happen. I want the first example, that gives 9 to happen, not the second example, or what you're telling me to do, which gives 8.

Then add an additional column to calculate the numbers. Round the data in the each cells first, then sum the rounded numbers.

I know I can do that. That's not the question.
